[And not fifteen minutes later was Vera knocking at Pen's door, barefoot, mud smeared on her face and tattered clothes. Her hair was a mess, and her legs were dotted with scrapes. Still, when Pen answers the door, all she can do is smile.]

I'm officially sick of your magic rocks, Pen.

[Pen answers with a strained smile and gestures her inside.]

Well the good news is it isn't from a magic rock.

[Still, she'll follow Pen's lead and step inside, careful not to get mud on anything as she does.]

[Sighing, Pen holds out a warm towel so Vera can wipe mud off.]

Other me also had summoned monsters called Espers. Yahri come from auracite. And Espers are some sort of demon.

[Pen, you are a wonderful person. Vera graciously takes the towel and begins wiping her face and legs down.]

Demons now, great. You really do breed trouble, don't you?

Apparently, other me fought these things. And then bound them as thralls.

I remembered some of it the other day.

[Now that her body is more or less free of mud, she casts off her shredded jacket and wraps it in the towel to keep it from dripping on anything.]

So the other you made that thing her bitch, and now he's getting back at you?

Something like that. Other me beat it in combat. I haven't, so the thing isn't fully bound to me yet. Once I beat it, I'll be able to command it.

It ran from me when I summoned it. It tried to fight and I summoned Gilgamesh, and it ran.

So its afraid of you, but also wants to kill you.

Sounds like we need a way to keep it from running away.

Well, I think it's looking for a lair. A place it can settle in. I took it off guard, but it'll be setting up traps.

It's already sent people to try and being me to it.

[Pen pauses, thinking of how much to say. Howard she'll leave out of this. He's done nothing wrong.]

Do you know Minato Arisato?

Not well, we've spoken a few times.

He...came to the house, and tried to convince me to go with him to Mateus. Mateus had sent a minion with him, some little ball of ice, and when I wouldn't go...it attacked me. And he tried to help it.

I don't know what he was thinking, but he pulled a bow on me.

He helped?! What the hell could it have told him to make him attack you?

[Vera's hands clench into fists.]

I don't know. Probably some shit about me forcing Mateus into servitude.

He didn't shoot at me. And Gilgamesh terrified him off, but yeah. There you have it.

I'm not saying this to slander the guy, or to get him arrested. I don't think the police would buy demonic pacts as a motive anyway. But you should be aware, that's why he's not welcome here anymore.
