[Eventually, Ren gets annoyed enough with not knowing what's going on with the whole storm bullshit to actively do something about it more than exploring some wilds, and he's not interested in saving the mayor or whoever.
This time he actually has names, and one on the lists he saw was a familiar one—so he sends a text.]
We're in a small mountain town, and it's damn cold. We've been stumbling around in the dark and the locals are having problems with wolves. we're not sure of all the specifics but I think that qualifies as interesting?
[It comes as something of a surprise, but this time things feel far less frantic—but it's because the monsters are staying outside the city and he doesn't care about Recolle's government.]
something took all the major officials from the city, so there's no one in charge. otherwise, we were told to make "paths" to the different places they've taken you. it's mostly been driving with an occasional monster to kill.
Yep. Giant wolf eating the sun, the snake the size of Midgard coming for Thor, etc. But that seems like the ramblings of a crazy person. I think it's actually werewolves.
We found an old journal rambling about Ragnarok, but also werewolves. Those seem more plausible.
And yeah? Have you been helping out with the trailblazing?
not in the city, but they're out where we've been traveling. and they're easier to deal with now that i have an actual weapon, not to mention the experience of dealing with them before.
still aggravating, but better than august in every way.
it's been worse. stranger things might be more widespread than before, but the danger isn't immediate, and those of us who have been aware are more prepared to explain things to them.
[What is this... optimism?? It helps that he doesn't care about the mayor and all those people going missing.]
i can't imagine what it must have been like for the people who Retrospec brought on first.
And you know, it was pretty wild, when it first started. It's gotten significantly more dangerous as time has gone on though. I was in the second group, and it was pretty much just the odd blackout.
i came in the month they miniaturized us all. it wasn't monsters, though it could have been just as dangerous. just with more accidents and less things trying to kill us.
i don't like the way it's been escalating. like they're gradually getting us used to worse things.
And I agree. Though, I don't think it's Retrospec's fault that things are escalating. I'm not willing to lay the blame for things that clearly affect them at their feet just yet.

[As is his usual as of late, he comforts himself with the thought that he can move things with his brain.]
when i can. surprisingly the shop doesn't consider pioneering to be a valid reason to miss work.

Any monsters roaming around like last August?

I fee bad for the newbies, now, though. Given how crazy things are with so many people being out of the city.

[He's not even being sarcastic.]
i don't trust them, no matter what they say about how they're being affected. things didn't start changing until they came into the picture.

i don't think it's impossible that it's something else. but until i see proof with my own eyes, retrospec is still the most likely culprit.

Time will definitely tell!
